Open-access Challenges and strategies for conducting research in public health institutions

The fundamental function of the public health institutions is the health assistance activity; nevertheless, teaching and research presuppose essential activities to improve the quality of the above mentioned institutions. The integration of research with clinical practice favours a better and more rapid implementation of the scientific advances in the prevention, promotion, prediction, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of the diseases, as well as a more ethical and efficient care of patients. The public health institutions should analyze which are its difficulties in carrying out research tasks and thus should elaborate strategies that could provide reliable information for decision making based on evidence. It would be desirable that health policies follow guidelines or updated recommendations based on major and better available evidence. This evidence can only come from research performed in the above mentioned institutions and put within reach of politicians, scientists and community. Sustained development without research does not exist.
