Open-access The polychrome of livestock: bovine and equine lexic of late nineteenth century in Costa Rica

Abstract

This paper studies the cattle lexicon used at the end of the 19th century in Costa Rica. For the systematizing of the selected corpus are considered the Judicial Bulletin (The First stage), which was published between 1861 and 1865. In this form it was informing about the characteristics of the confiscated cattle by the police. The description had as intention warn to the possible owners. This article analyzes the associate terms that are recorded in these notices. The possible meanings of the lexemes are established, according with the lexicographical Costa Rican sources and the Spanish in general. Finally, they are classified according to the semantic field.
