Open-access New contributions to the knowledges of the historical seismicity of the Costa Rica Caribbean

Abstract:

The seismic catalog of the Costa Rican Caribbean presents gaps for moderate to small magnitudes (M = 4 to 6). The seismic swarm of April 1920 between Turrialba, Atirro, and Turrialba volcano, as well as the earthquake of October 19, 1926 (M = 6.0) are events of great importance characterized by hemerographic research, described in detail in this article and proposed to be included in the country's seismic catalog. The information contained in this article shows that more research in historical seismicity must be generated to specify and update the completeness of the seismic catalog, as well as its correlation with current tectonics.
