Open-access Anti-Freemasonry and anticlericalism: Two sides of the same coin

Abstract

This text shows facts and documentation from different historical stages in Mexico related to Freemasonry and the opposition it has generated from religious groups, especially but not exclusively the Catholic one. Examples of anti-Masonic publications are included, with an emphasis on the York Rite and the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite; In addition, little-known facts are reported, such as the dissemination of lists of Freemasons among the ''cristeros'' or the participation of Freemason diplomats in religious ceremonies in the Vatican.
