Abstract
This article analyzes the conception of miscegenation present in the historical story Ojos azules (2009) by the Spanish author Arturo Pérez-Reverte; this seeks to show the complexity of cultural shock proposed in the text through a semiotic-discursive analysis of the narrative representation of space, bodies, symbolic elements, the formal level, the diegetic structure and the paratextual syntagma. The proposed objective is to point out the simplicity of the perspective of the concept of miscegenation in which the text is -apparently- inscribed and to demonstrate the dynamics of change between the concept of miscegenation and transculturation in diegesis. Hence, it would reveal problematic and ambivalent spaces that put the colony-indigenous or conquerorconquered dichotomy in crisis. To demonstrate this transition, we start from the cross-cultural theory proposed by Ángel Rama; thus, the main outcome is found in how the metaphor of miscegenation is insufficient to explain the cultural and ideological complexity in which the text is found, since it fails to solve the discursive tension present in the closing of the work.
