Abstract
For this article, a bibliometric study is carried out to measure the behavior of the scientific production of the articles contained in the volumes published in the years 2008 to 2013 of the Journal of Social Sciences of the University of Costa Rica. Bibliometrics with its indicators was used as a method to analyze the characteristics of the production of the journal, the quantity and age of the bibliographic references used for the creation of the articles, as well as the production by authors and publication topics. Among the main conclusions, a total of 207 publications are recorded in the period studied and, the year 2008, turns out to be the most productive in relation to the other years; there are, in scientific production, small and medium-scale producers and their ageing index is low, in addition to the collaboration between authors.
