This paper is a historical review of medical reports about the remains of the Cuban National Hero José Julián Martí which were based on dentition. The Spanish army had incorrect information as did those in charge of the second exhumation in 1907. The following debate led the forensic expert to accuse newspaper reporters of misunderstanding his words, but a final statement required another forensic exam to which Martis dentist was called. This showed that the leader of Cuaban independence had damaged teeth instead of the "perfect dentition"originally mentioned.
