Open-access Teaching and learning english processes in the costa rica western region: strengths and limits in didactics, evaluating strategies, and linguistics and communicative skills

Abstract

This article brings out part of the results of a research conducted with English teachers of the Dirección Regional de Educación de Occidente, Costa Rica. The main purpose of this study was to diagnose English teachers' strengths and limitations regarding the areas of linguistic and communicative skills, didactics of English, methodology, and assessment strategies. This investigation was based on the qualitative paradigm; besides, it utilized ethnographic research tools for data collection. Nevertheless, this article only presents the findings regarding the strengths and weaknesses educators have in didactics, development of the linguistic and communicative skills and evaluation strategies. The analysis and interpretation of the data was done by using the established categories, strengths and limitations.
