Open-access Use of the Qlone™ application as a tool for creating low-cost and high-fidelity three-dimensional anatomical bone models

Abstract

Aim: Describe a standard methodology for the creation of low-cost and high-fidelity three-dimensional anatomic osseous models, using Qlone™ application.

Methods: Through descriptive research, a standard methodology is proposed for the creation of three dimentional bone models as follows: I. Assembly of the scanning module with light source, rotating base, mat and anatomical piece, and II. Model development with initial preparation, image capture, model editing and completion and saving.

Results: By applying this standard methodology, a high fidelity three dimentional model in which 100% of the minimum anatomical osseous structures to identify is achieved in the case of the sacrum and lumbar vertebral bones. It is a low cost method since it only requires one initial investment after which unlimited models can be made without additional costs.

Conclusions: Qlone™ is a useful application in the creation of low-cost and highfidelity three dimentional anatomical models. It is a user-dependent tool that requires adjustments according to the piece to be modeled, but by carefully following the described methodology, it reduces errors in the reconstruction of the three dimentional model, increases the level of detail, and ensures anatomical accuracy.
