This report presents a general description of one of the studies frequently done inside the approach of Design Research, the Teaching Experiments. It focuses in particular on the experiments called Teacher Development Experiment (TDE) and describes the principles that sustain them and their main characteristics. This article was done by analyzing papers on the subject. The document analysis was used to structure the methodology of a study conducted by the author at the University of Granada during the period between 2008 and 2012. As part of the conclusions, the author argued the potential of this research methodology to explore the development of the mathematical knowledge of future teachers of elementary education. The aim of this paper is to promote the knowledge and the use of this methodological alternative in the investigation in Education, particularly that one developed in the context of the initial teacher training.
