Open-access Vocational Counseling's Contributions at the Work Context

In Costa Rica, the educational and penitentiary contexts are the ones in which the Counseling profession has mainly been developed, due to the greater availability of jobs in those areas. This essay referenced to the contributions of Counseling in the work setting, based on the accumulated experience of teaching two courses on Vocational Counseling at the Licenciatura in Educational Sciences with an emphasis in Counseling at Universidad de Costa Rica. The theoretical aspects that are the foundation of this group of professionals' interventions at the organizational level, such as vocational developmental stages and tasks of the working person, the objectives and functions of Counseling at the occupational context, are presented. Then, there are specific strategies that can be applied from Vocational Counseling field. Those actions are proposed by Costa Rican authors who are professional counselors.
