Open-access Contributing to the Colonial History of Belize: Explaining the Indian Presence in British Honduras

Abstract

First, this work offers a prospection of the studies on the Hindu migration to the British Honduras colony in the 19th century. Next, a discussion takes place about whether the movement that brought the first Hindus to this colony can be interpreted as a “diaspora” or should it be conceptualized as labor or other migration. The study concludes with a section that seeks to explain the Hindu presence in the colony, which also led them to the territory of Guatemala. It concludes with a reflection that synthesizes the set of experiences obtained in the process of investigation and argumentative construction on an unexplored topic in the Central American region.
