Open-access The Quintessential Costa Rican Writer: Carlos Luis Fallas Sibaja and his Eulogies (1966)

Abstract

This article studies Costa Rican communist writer Carlos Luis Fallas' eulogies of 1966. This work analyzes this particular year as it is believed that the extent of messages published in the press respond to memory politics that contributed to the rise of Fallas as the quintessential national writer. In other words, this study will provide insight into the start of this author's canonical status as a national institution after his death. Lastly, this article reflects on the significance of his death and the discourse built around it.
