Open-access “Database on public institutions of Costa Rica and Nicaragua, 1840-1940”. A proposal for the comparative analysis of Central America

Abstract

The main objective of this article is to present the “Database on Public Institutions of Costa Rica and Nicaragua, 1840 and 1940”. It was developed as part of a project directed by the State of the Nation Program, in Costa Rica, with the collaboration of the Institute of History of Nicaragua and Central America of the Central American University, in Nicaragua. From the above, in addition to the technical aspects of the database, the article presents some of the conclusions obtained from a preliminary review of the results. It is intended to show the possibilities of this tool for the comparative study of the formation of States in the region, based on the analysis of their institutional-administrative composition.
